Bio for Kimberly Yonker

The 2014-2015 school year is my 14th year teaching at CJHS.  This year I will be teaching 7th grade social studies (world geography) and 8th grade social studies (U.S. History).  I also have experience teaching reading, language arts, life science, math, and computers.
I am the Geography Bee and History Bee sponsor for the school.  This year will be my 13th year directing the school play.  I have previous experience with student council and as the spelling bee sponsor.  You may also see me around school scorekeeping or timing events like basketball, wrestling, or scholastic bowl as well as sometimes playing with the pep band.  During the summers I am a teacher leader with People to People, where I have been fortunate enough to travel with delegates to Europe three times, and work with students from around the world at Harvard University.  Two summers ago with People to People I spent a few weeks touring Australia, and then another few weeks working at a Film & Arts conference at UCLA where we filmed on the backlots of Universal Studios.
Professionally, I received my BA in Elementary Education from Lewis University (2001) and my M.Ed. in Educational Administration from Grand Canyon University (2011). I have been on the school's leadership team, crisis response team, student outreach services committee, and the district's technology committee.
In my limited free time I enjoy reading, music, movies, theater, food, watching sports, and traveling.  I am also a self-proclaimed geek, and I love going to Comic-Cons!  My 'just for fun' goal is to collect bobbleheads of every president, and other random sci-fi stuff.  I also collect pins of the places I've traveled.
