Last Tuesday marked the end of another very successful STEP Course at the YMCA in Ballincollig. The Graduation ceremony took place at 7pm and was attended by the STEP trainees and their families, YMCA staff and community representatives. A large number of parents and trainees thanked the staff for giving them the opportunity to attend the course as they all said it has changed their lives for the better and given them direction for their future. Two of the trainees are going back to College in September to do the Leaving Certificate and all other trainees who graduated have secured places in PLC courses at Coláiste Stiofáin Naofa persuing their chosen careers namely, Computer Forensics, Computer Maintenance and Legal Studies. We wish them all the best for the future and thank you the staff and volunteers for all your support.
Ballincollig PAKT & PAKT+ groups are celebrating International Children's Day. This day is widely celebrated on the 1st of June. Children's Day had its origin in the World Conference for the Wellbeing of Children in Geneva in 1925. This week we'll be focusing on Children's Rights and United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. The kids will have chance to build familiarity with the convention, to learn about their own rights and about their responsibility to respect the rights of others. We'll highlight ideas of respect, fairness, justice & equality.
Helen Lane hosted a drumming workshop with the Step trainees as part of the Yshare module much to the delight of all the others sharing the same office space. If we have time to polish our newly learned drumming skills you may be in for a treat on Step Graduation night. Watch this space. If you would like to get a feel for our drumming skills you can watch the video below. Please excuse the first 20 seconds of the clip as Sharon's videoing skills leave a lot to be desired.

Last Thursday Ballincollig YMCA welcomed the PAKT COOK OFF.
Over 30 kids and their parents, in the age between 4 and 50+, enjoyed the Cook Off competition. Four teams had to complete different tasks such as cake-decorating, smoothie-making and fruit sculpturing. The parents were beaten by their kids after three rounds. Teamwork and fun for all were the outcomes of the event!
YMCA Ballincollig took part in the Community Fun Day in Ballincollig on the last Sunday. This event has been organized by young people with help from the youth organizations and local businesses to celebrate the community, bring families together and have fun.
Over 800 people including many PAKT families enjoyed lots of activities: bouncing castle, sponge throwing, face painting etc. The weather supported us with over 20 degrees and sunshine: it couldn't have been better!
A big thanks to all who have been involved in the event's organization! Well Done!
