Who?

He received his Ph.D degree in Communication from University of Pennsylvania in 2011. His dissertation, titled The Impact of Deliberation on Social and Semantic Networks: Citizens’ Mental Models of Bioethical Issues in Genetics Using Automated Textual Analysis (Supervised by Dr. Joseph N. Cappella), investigates the impact of online discussions on small group networks and their opinion operationalized as textual networks of main themes.  
Young Min Baek received his B.S. degree in the same major from Yonsei University in 2002, and M.A. degree from Seoul National University and Iowa State University in 2005 and 2006, respectively. 

His paper won the top student paper award  in National Communication Association in 2008, and also the top faculty paper in International Communication Association in 2009. His M.S. thesis (supervised by Dr. Sung Gwan Park) won the best thesis award in The Korean Society for Journalism and Communication Studies.


Research Interest in General

His main research interest is how to measure, explain, and predict the dynamics of collective opinion in a group or a society.  He conducted some quantitative and qualitative researches.
