Biography

Dr Yiqun Hu is currently the Research Assistant Professor in the School of Computer Science and Software Engineering, University of Western Australia. Before joining UWA, he was the Research Fellow in the School of Computer Engineering of Nanyang Technological University. He received the Bachelor degree in Computer Science from Xiamen University in 2002 and received his PhD degree in Computer Engineering from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in 2008. Before his PhD study in NTU, he worked as a Leading Software Engineer in the small business team and back office team of a silicon valley company www.eHealthInsurance.com R&D center (Xiamen) from 2002 to 2003. Dr Hu's currently scientific interests include local distance learning, multi-label/multi-instance/multi-kernel learning, nonnegative matrix factorization and sparse coding. The applications of his research are mainly in contextual attention modeling, general object recognition, near-duplication retrieval/detection and visual data retargeting.
