After three years of fallow ground, YfC appointed Mark McKnight as Centre staff worker, contributing to Harrogate YfC-led assemblies at St Aidan's, Harrogate Ladies College and Ashville during November in 2007 as well as supporting CUs. Mark gave a ten minute testimony at the gig organised by St Aidan's CU with bands Plus and The Steels on 14 December 2007.
Mark joined YfC on Monday 18 June 2007 for eight months before choosing to move on and explore other works in February 2008.
Andy Wilson followed in the director's chair, providing a distinct contribution as the Senior Youth Worker for Harrogate and District YfC. Noted for his work in schools - assemblies, lessons and Christian Unions, Andy kept the YfC banner flying for nearly five years before funding required dried up. Andy, ably supported by his wife Emma, launched a youth ministry "Roll the Rock" in the Autumn of 2004.
Paul and Sheelagh Easby responded to God's call to reach out across boundaries to the young people of Harrogate and Knaresborough. Learning to 'live by faith' and trusting God for his provision, HarDYfC was birthed. Speaking at schools, churches and on the street, many were drawn by the gospel message. The picture shows Paul Easby (looking very young!) at one of the many March for Jesus processions. Using words and music by Graham Kendrick and others, March for Jesus took the challenge of the cross onto the streets of Britain initially and then all over the world.
The message of the cross remains the same in the third millennium. Christians know and love God as their Father in heaven; God wants all to know his love - to enjoy a deep, loving and meaningful relationship with him. Christians understand that the only way that relationship can happen is by realising that the we have to be open, honest and pure in that relationship - and that means doing, behaving and living as God wants. God demands a lot.... and our wrongdoing stops us relating with our heavenly Father.
That's where his Son, Jesus Christ comes in - dying on the cross as a sacrifice for all our sins - our wrongs. When people accept Jesus died for them, and are happy for Jesus to be central to their life, the reason for living, the Lord and Master of their lives, then he sends us help to make that relationship strong: the Holy Spirit.
Paul and Sheelagh Easby took this message across the area for some years before moving to Sheffield to join and train in the Church of England's Church Army. Many were encouraged, drawn into God's family, were helped to understand the joy of salvation and some were helped in God's call in evangelism.
Karin Shaw joined as Director from Saltmine - the Christian Theatre Company. She brought her fine skills in drama and presentation with her, helping this expressive side of evangelism to flourish. Karin moved on and back to Harrogate as the Youth Worker for St Mark's church, Leeds Road; Karin helped Pippa Carter to birth the vision for United Gigs - youth and youth leaders working together to bring contemporary Christian music to the area. Karin and her husband Graham moved with his job to the West Midlands in 2003
Daryll Hackett was appointed as Director in September 2008, following the Lord's call on his life to develop the secular schools and corporate work of Urban Circus Arts to spread the gospel - as seen through the ministry of Holy Kapow!. Daryll is seen here with Paul & Sheelagh Easby on the morning of Sunday 18 January with the secretary of Churches Together in Harrogate, delivering WYEC's Unity Post to 34 churches.
Colleen Scruton has supported the work of YfC as administrator for more than ten years, also helping with the administration and running of related organisastions including HYPeR.
Partners The Trustees of Harrogate YfC remain deeply grateful to the many supporters and Partners down the years, helping by volunteering, working alongside us, praying, poster making, working in schools and with young people across the area, giving financially and spreading the word. "Without you, we wouldn't have been here to do this ministry - thank you."
Trustees and Council of Reference With occassional changes in the Trustee and Exec group, and a broad range of folk on our Council of Reference with the gifts of wisdom and encouragement, Harrogate and district Youth for Christ has been very grateful to all and especially to our Saviour, Jesus Christ, to the Father and the Holy Spirit for the opportunity to have served in the ministry of taking the gospel relevantly to the young people of this district.
