I am Head of Global Economic Security Group at Hyundai Motor Group. Previously, I served as Director and Professor of the Center for Economic and Technology Security Studies at the Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA) and as Head of Economic Security Team at the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP). I received a B.A. in East Asian History and English Literature from Yonsei University, M.A. in International Relations with a concentration in both Korea and Japan Studies from UC San Diego’s School of Global Policy and Strategy, and Ph.D. in Economics from Stony Brook University.
My current research interests include U.S.-China trade conflict, U.S.-China technological rivalry, and economic security. Currently, I am a member of the policy advisory committee for the National Security Office (Office of the President). In April 2022, I was also a member of then-President-elect Yoon Suk Yeol’s R.O.K.-U.S. Policy Consultation Delegation, where I oversaw economic security issues.
