Welcome incoming graduate students to the Chemistry Department at Iowa State University!

We are in the process of re-establishing the YCC as a department wide organization for gradate students and post-docs. Our first goal is to revamp and re-organize the Graduate Student Liaison Committee.

In addition, We would like to revive the Graduate Student Symposium which provides graduate students with the opportunity to present their science in a relatively informal setting. Formerly, we have met bi-weekly on Wednesdays at 4:00 pm in 1352 Gilman Hall. Click here for more information and to sign up. Check the calendar for upcoming presenters.

About Us

The American Chemical Society’s Younger Chemists Committee (YCC) was formed to identify the needs and concerns of young chemists and to develop programs responsive to their needs. YCC is driven by three goals:
  • Make the ACS relevant to younger chemists
  • Increase the involvement of younger chemists in the ACS at all levels
  • Develop mechanisms to integrate younger chemists into the profession
The Local Section of the Younger Chemist Committee was formed fall 2008 as a means to bring external speakers and activities outside of the chemistry department to the young chemists in the Ames area. The speakers will have a wide range of expertise from entrepreneurship to management skills in an effort to show how knowledge gained in academia can be applied in industry and elsewhere. In addition, the Local Section will function as a support network for young chemists.
