Kirby's Super Star Stacker

  • Translation project

An unknown puzzle game called: "Kirby no Kira Kira Kids" (litt. translated as "Kirby's Sparkling Kids") in Japan. Oddly, a GameBoy port did exist for the North American market, but the Super Famicom version of this game has never seen the light outside the country it was produced.

Similar to Panel De Pon this game uses a stack which grows from the bottom. There are basically three types of regular tiles: Rick, Coo, and Kine. If you align two or more of them vertically or horizontally they disappear. The star tiles act as joker cards can be used to cross gaps between two tiles of the same character. After they are removed the stack on top of those tiles falls down enabling chain reactions to occur.

During initial play of KSSS small chain reactions will appear quite frequently giving the player a feeling that little tactic is required as most of it is luck. However if you play against high-leveled CPUs it soon becomes evident that simply arranging the blocks won't work. The game play is much deeper than one can see at first sight...
