The dates we picked at the club meeting are: April 9th thru12th, Diving the 10th and 11th.
I will be making the reservations next Saturday morning so please send me your confirmation no later than Friday October 24th.
When I make the reservation, I will be required to pay up front so I’ll be needing payment shortly after. Do not pay me until I’ve actually booked so I can see what the exchange amount will be. The website says $139.95 plus tax Canadian. I need to see what that will convert to.
When you confirm for the trip, I need to know how many divers. Non divers are absolutely welcome and encouraged to join for the weekend.
I called the motel. The attachment shows what the normal rate would be for three nights and what the discounted rate would be. However, when I called to talk to them, I was told that there is a possibility that the motel may not be available. There is a major renovation going on and they don’t have the schedule of when the tear down will happen. So, we may need to consider an Airbnb. I’ve looked and there are some that will accommodate a large group and we can just split the cost. I’ve included a link below of one that looks really nice. 6 bedrooms and 6 baths, hot tub and pool. Depending on how many we have going, the cost could be reasonable.

New Divers & New Club Members

Brian and George came up with the idea of letting people at the YMCA Aquatic Center experience a ‘discover scuba’ type of event (blow bubbles).
Brian thinks that this will get new divers. George thinks this will get new club members.
The idea is to set up a display at the Y (see picture) with a poster, dive gear display, and brochures.
They could then sign up at the front desk with a $20 deposit for the session.
We met with Bob Romero who runs the Aquatic center and they agreed that we could use the pool for one hour after they had closed on at 5:30 Sunday, February 26. They would pay for the life guards. And they would add the club and instructors to their liability insurance.
So the plan now is to see how many sign up. I believe that the maximum should be 6; Two for each instructor (Brian DM, Max OWSI, and me MSDT). We have limited it to age of 21+ and have asked each to give shirt and shoe size for BC and fins.
George and I presented at the YDC meeting and several said that they might have equipment we could borrow.
So now the display has been up for two days (as of February 14.) It really looks good and we need to compliment Brian and George.

Hi everyone, here is a photo of the YDC display at PNWU of Medical Sciences on Friday, August 12th.
The response was phenomenal! There were so many interested students and faculty and interaction was very excited and positive. The most common comments were "I didn't know there was a dive club in Yakima" and "Where do you dive?"

The Yakima Dive Club’s Roadside Clean Up team had a perfect day of weather for cleaning another section between 40th Avenue and 16th Avenue.
Removal of trash really improves the visual image of our community.

“A Gathering of Crabs”
Due to the C-19 issues, this years YDC’s Crabfest will be modified to a “Let’s Meet at Mukilteo and Gather Crabs”.
Same site as the last couple years. Meet at the Edgewater Beach Parking lot on the east side of the Boeing Dock at 11 A.M..
Plan to splash at noon. Optional picnic.
Bring crabs home and have them at the YDC’s Summer BBQ on the 11th in Carmody’s yard/patio.
Directions, from I-5 north or 405 north, onto route 525 (Mukilteo Speedway) which takes you to the Mukilteo Ferry.
Just before the ferry, turn right onto 2nd street.
About 175 yards, turn left onto the next street, Mukilteo Lane. It will curve to the right, follow for about .4 of a mile and turn left, cross the railroad tracks, curve right and follow to the parking area.

Due to the status of Yakima County related to Covid 19, for the health and safety of all, the annual YDC’s Summer BBQ has been postponed until August 11. Intend to do the Crab Dive on the 8 or 9 of August and bring some crab back for the BBQ.
Updated information shall be emailed to all and presented in the newsletters.
Therefore, the July 14 meeting shall once again be via Zoom. All are invited to join in starting at 6 P.M.. Details for the Zoom meeting shall be emailed to all.

Well done to vice president Leslie C. for running the meeting as president Chris W. had to be at work.
Several enjoyed the special take out dinner available from Nana Kates as others indulged in their foods and beverages.
