My dissertation research focuses on evolutionary genetics and conservation of high-latitude island ecosystems. Using multiple genetic analysis and Geographic Information System techniques, I assess the effects of historical climate on the current genetic structure of three small mammals in Southeast Alaska. I also generate predictions on potential effects of future climate on these endemic populations.

My career interests center on connecting scientific research and policy in ecosystem management. I believe the key to successful management strategies is public education and outreach, strong science, effective communication, knowledge, and realistic views of economic and biological assessments.
