Xydexx: More Pony Than Pony

Because everyone loves ponies.

January 23, 2010

Yay for website updates! I've gone ahead with the map idea and created the Xydexx Map Department, which will have a collection of historical information and maps. The first section is already in place, a small set of pages on the village of Eastview, NY that no longer exists. I drew up a map in Adobe Illustrator to include as well, based on an old map from 1911.

I've also put the first 100 chapters of The Holey Bubble online, which is based on memorable LiveJournal entries.

Okay, so my resolution to design something every day isn't going as well as I'd initially hoped. Instead, I've been updating my webpages and getting them organized. The other night I was browsing around in the American Memory Collection at Library of Congress (one of my favorite time-wasters), and found an old map showing the post roads in Westchester County. I thought maybe my website should have a section on old maps too. I have the old Hagstrom's map from 1940-something that I could scan in, but also the aerial view of Arcola in the 1950s, plus any other old maps I create for research purposes. This could be a Good Thing.

Only a minor update here, and a reminder to design something every day in 2010. Hey, it could happen. I still have that bottle of Gordon's Dry Gin I found out in the woods that requires rebranding. In all seriousness, there are a lot of things on my To Do list, projects that need finishing, so much stuff to do. SQUEAKYPONY.COM should be developed further, despite the fact that it's just a place for web development at this point.

So I'm going to be putting together a mini-encyclopedia of sorts based on my LiveJournal profile interests. I've been meaning to do this for a little while (in between my busy schedule of baking pumpkin raisin bread and nomnomnommy cookies). Maybe more baking today.

Not deployed yet. I have a few errands to run today, like empty the dishwasher and some minor grocery shopping. Nothing spectacular. If I'm feeling particularly motivated I might clean up my office a bit, it's getting kinda cluttered.

I reorganized my webpages last night. Mostly behind-the-scenes tweaks. More updates soon. HTML: It's like a disease.

This is the most normal text on the page, and serves as a general update. Xydexx now has a new page on WikiFur, because WikiFur moved off of Wikia recently. There was some arglebargle over WikiFur's languid progress in removing batshit insane conspiracy theories (i.e., the Russian Popper Mafia), but this seems to have finally been resolved. Why it took four months to take action in the first place is anyone's guess.

In other news, I spotted a few cool new videos on YouTube recently:

March 13, 2009

I mentioned elsewhere that there was a new commercial property being developed near Sycolin Road and Battlefield Parkway here in Leesburg called Sycolin Corner. There's also another huge tract of land being developed just a cat's throw away from that called Oaklawn. It's a combination planned residential community (PRC) and planned employment community (PEC), with 326 residential units, office and retail space, and a hotel. The abandoned section of Tolbert Road runs along it's South border.

The Oaklawn development is going to have ten restaurants, thus greatly increasing our options for dinner on Bowling Night and Game Night. Hopefully one of them will be a Hard Times Cafe or Sweetwater Tavern. Having either of those in Leesburg would be awesome.

I've been having a lot of fun checking out BoingBoing, the directory of wonderful things lately. I found a list of Ways To Be Cool, one of which is eXXXtreme everything. Xydexx is eXXXtremely squeaky, though, so that's like giving me advice I don't already follow. There's also mention of an Inflatable Trans-Am, which would be the sort of car Xydexx would drive. This is not to be confused with the Air Car, which looks delightfully weird. It's a car that runs on compressed air. Zero emissions. The AirPod is my personal favorite, because it looks like some futuristic vehicle you'd find cruising around on an alien planet. You drive it with a joystick.

About Xydexx

Xydexx is a giant purple inflatable unicorn that squeaks. Show me someone who says Xydexx takes things too seriously and I'll show you someone who takes Xydexx too seriously. Yes, Xydexx is a weirdo, but there's nothing wrong with being a weirdo because weird is where the fun is! Have you hugged a lipsumcoon today? Try it, it's awesome! Explore the exciting new hobby of PONY STACKING: Putting ponies on top of other ponies because they're stackable and interlocking! And that's just pervy!

Xydexx has put a temporary stop on developing an army of robotic ponies at his research facility at Breakneck Mountain. There are... other things that need attention at the moment. We continue to give thanks to Lambert Lambert (the happy mutant who is so nice they named him twice) for his assistance in conducting this Important Research. Together, we can keep the internet shiny!

Xydexx's Other Online Hangouts

Xydexx can usually be found in the places which make the internet weird, and therefore, awesome. Check out these links to see what Xydexx has been working on recently:

  • XYDEXX.COM — Xydexx's main homepage, established in October 1999. Information on modern ruins, furry fandom, and inflatable reindeer.
  • XYDEXX.INFO — Currently under development. Contains history of the Boringville Clock Tower. In the future, this will include a Maps Department with a collection of old maps.
  • XYDEXX.NET — Someone once suggested Xydexx should start his own religion. Thus, The Holey Bubble was created. The Xydexx Directory of Things is also there, and contains recipes for pumpkin bread and such.
  • XYDEXX.ORG — A little collection of weirdness, at the Xydexx Institute of Squeaks.
