I am a writer. Sometimes I like to challenge myself with meaningless banter. Here is one such challenge:

100 words:

Ver. 1: 138 words = Fail. Am I really the cause of all this strife? Did I really just do what I think they say I did? That…that button…I pressed it. No, I couldn’t have! Someone bumped me. I had to catch myself, didn’t I? Or…would it have been better if I had just let myself fall? I thought they were joking when they said the laser had the potential to – no, I knew they were joking. So why’s everyone staring at me? I can even hear their horrified silence over the loud thrumming of the machine behind me. Any second now the machine will stop and then they’ll all laugh and say it was just a joke and streamers will come down and they’ll say, “April fools!” Either that or tomorrow there will be no moon to be found in the night sky.

Ver. 2: 98 words = Okay. I pressed it. Any second now the machine will stop and then they’ll all laugh…either that or tomorrow there will be no moon to be found in the night sky.

Ver. 3: 100 words = Success. Why do they think I pressed the button? Someone bumped me. I had to catch myself, didn’t I? Or maybe they think it would have been better if I had just let myself fall? I thought they were joking when they said the laser had the potential to…to destroy that. But…but everyone is staring at me. I can even hear their horrified silence over the loud thrumming of the machine behind me. Any second now the machine will stop and then they will all laugh…either that or tomorrow there will be no moon to be found in the night sky.

Czech back later and you might see a short story or two.
