Professor Xinghuo Yu (余星火) is an Associate Deputy Vice-Chancellor and the Chair of RMIT Professorial Academy at RMIT University (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology), Melbourne, Australia. He is an RMIT Distinguished Professor in the School of Engineering. He is also the President of IEEE Industrial Electronics Society for 2018 and 2019.  
Professor Yu started his academic career in 1989 as a Postdoctoral Fellow with the University of Adelaide, Adelaide, Australia. In 1991, he joined Central Queensland University, Rockhampton, Australia, where, before he left in 2002, he was Professor of Intelligent Systems and Associate Dean (Research) of Faculty of Informatics & Communication. Since 2002, he has been with RMIT University, where he held various positions such as Associate Dean (Research & Innovation) and Research Institute Director. 
Professor Yu has worked extensively with energy, security, resources, and manufacturing industries. He was on the Board of Governors of the Australian Photonics Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) (2003-2006) and on the Science Advisory Committee of the Advanced Manufacturing CRC (2008-2013), and is a non-executive Director of Oceania Cyber Security Centre Limited.
Professor Yu has published extensively in Control Systems, Intelligent and Complex Systems, and Smart Grids. His work has been highly cited. He received a number of awards and honours for his contributions, including the 2013 Dr.-Ing. Eugene Mittelmann Achievement Award of IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, the 2018 M A Sargent Medal of Engineers Australia, and the 2018 Australasian Artificial Intelligence Distinguished Research Contribution Award of Australian Computer Society.  He has been named  a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate Analytics /Thomson Reuters since 2015.  He is a Fellow of the IEEEInstitution of Engineering and Technology (UK), Engineers Australia, Australian Computer Society, and  Australian Institute of Company Directors. He is also an Engineering Executive and a Chartered Professional Engineer of Engineers Australia.
