Xiaoyan Lu (卢笑言)

No matter how strong a will a person has, no matter how much he may hate to lose, if it’s an activity he doesn’t really care for, he won’t keep it up for long. Even if he did, it wouldn’t be good for him.
------ What I Talk About When I Talk About Running, Haruki Murakami

I finished my Ph.D. study at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, advised by Prof. Boleslaw K. Szymanski. My research interests are mainly in the topics of scalable community detection in social networks and the structure and dynamics of critical transitions in networks. I am working at Google NYC now.

Research Interests:
Network is a powerful way to represent relational data in a variety of fields, ranging from social connections in online social platforms to the information-flow in blockchain networks. My research interests focus on the following three aspects of network science:
  1.  Principled methods for community detection at scale
  2.  Emerging dynamics and structural change in temporal networks
  3.  Graph representation learning for predictive models
