Kunnathur Ayyan

Sri Ananthacharya known as Kunnathoor Ayyan was born to Sri Tirumalai Ananthanpillai Venkatacharya, son of Ananthanpillai Srinivaasacharya, who were all  Vedanta  scholars. Sri Ananthacharya left for Sri Rangam in 1438 AD and took shelter  at the holy feet of saint Manavala Mamunigal ,an  incarnation of Sri Ramanujacharya .At the behest of Saint Manavala Mamunigal Sri Ananthanpillai  Ananthacharya studied Sri Bhashyam ,Bhagavat Vaishyam ,Vaishnava Rahasya granthas in Saint Koil Kanthadai  Annan  Tirumaligai at Sri rangam. As per the wishes of Saint Manavala mamunigal Sri Ananthacharya  wrote a Mimamsa Bhashyam in Sanskrit for the celebrated Rahasya Grantham “ Sri Vachana  Bhooshanam” of the great Acharya Saint Pillai Lokacharya. The Sanskrit Bhashyam was so exciting that Lord Namperumal adorned Sri Ananthaan Pillai  Ananthacharya with the title “KUNNATHUR AYYAN” meaning the Acharya of Kunnathur. From that day onwards ie 1444 AD Sri Ananthacharya was called Kunnathur Ayyan .He spent nearly 20 years in saint  Kovil  Annan  Tirumaligai  and composed

1) Sandhyavandanam Bhashyam

2) Nayamatma  Sruthi Vyakyanam 

3) Kovil Annan Agaval(tamil)

4) Sri Vara Muni Ashtakam etc.

His son Sri Kunnathur Appan Srinivasacharya was also a great   Ubhaya Vedanta scholar .His descendants migrated to Kunnathur, Melkote and Tirupathi.
