U.S. Soccer Federation referee registrations in West Virginia for the 2017 badge year are running 7% ahead of the 2016 pace after 7 months, at 256 v 239.
The 2016 badge year represented a significant watershed, as it marked the first increase in referee registrations in West Virginia since 2009, with a total of 734 referees -- a 12.2% increase over the previous year.
Over 70% of the total registrations for 2016 were submitted in February, March and April of that year. If this pace holds for 2017, the West Virginia Soccer Association State Referee Program might receive over 500 more referee registrations in February through April of this year.
Referees wishing to recertify for 2017 can visit www.wvsareferees.org/for-referees/online-recertification-2017 and complete the process online.
