The Friends of the Cardinal is a local community action group that is dedicated to improving the passenger train service in West Virginia. Currently the Amtrak Cardinal train services Southern West Virginia on a tri-weekly schedule: Sunday, Wednesday and Friday. Station stops of the Cardinal include: Huntington, Charleston, Montgomery, Prince and White Sulphur Springs (the Greenbrier Resort). Our ultimate goal is to get a daily train running through the Mountain State.
We have had some major successes that include getting the West Virginia Legislature to create a preservation commission for the Prince depot (2012) and a revised state rail plan (2010); the addition of a baggage car in May 2010; 10 new signs directing motorists to the Charleston station put up by the City of Charleston (2009). Lend your support to help us sustain economical and environmentally sound transportation in our area!
