Welcome to the West Stockbridge Public Library

These pages are  dedicated to the Abraham Lincoln reproduction  on display at our library.

"Beardless Draped Lincoln" by sculptor Leonard W. Volk

How or when the Town of West Stockbridge came to own this bust is still under research by the West Stockbridge Historical Society.  Longtime residents report "it's always been here", and no mention of it being given to the town can be found in old town documents.

For many years the bust was displayed in the public rooms of the former West Stockbridge Town Hall at 9 Main Street. At some point it was moved into the West Stockbridge Library which occupied the ground floor of that building. When the town offfices and library were located to the former school building  at 21 State Line Road,, the bust arrived at its current home.
The bust and pedestal are made of solid, dense plaster.
Upon close inspection you will notice minor bumps and bruises the piece has received over the years, but it is still considered to be in very good condition.
It can be viewed during regular library hours.
