Welcome Back!!I hope you all had a fun and exciting summer! I sure did.
Yes! Theater came to Weathersfield!
Thank you students, you all did a fabulous job!
Brent and Maya McCoy of Yes! Theater, spent the past two weeks in Physical Education class. The students worked on circus skills, story creation, team building, and theatrics.
I am very proud of all the students! The artwork was amazing, too! To see students work hard in all classes to learn the skills they did, was truly amazing.
We had about a week of XC Skiing/snowshoeing. Unfortunatley, the weather has not cooperated. We jumped into jump roping/volleyball for the K-4 students and Volleyball for the 5-8. I look forward to the Create-A-Game unit and Hoops/Jump Rope for Heart in March.
We are fortunate to have snowshoes and XC Skiis! I have been running this unit for 10 years now.
Starting Jan 7, 2013, students will be learning the basics of snowshoeing and xcskiing.
Grades 4-8 will be xcskiing / snowshoeing
Grades K-4 will be snowshoeing
PLEASE DRESS FOR THE OUTDOORS. Hats, snowpants and gloves are not required but suggested. Boots (for snowshoeing) and Jackets are a must.
Grades 5-8 have started the Floor Hockey unit. They are doing awesome so far!
Grades K-4 have learned the Cha-Cha Slide and a few other dance moves. We are also working on Speed Stacking.
All classes are working in the basketball unit.
If you get a chance, check out NCAA basketball on t.v. or get to a High School game. It's a lot of fun!
We have finished a unit on Floor Hockey grades 3-8. Students in grades K-8 have started working in the Circus Arts unit. Juggling has included: scarves, rings and balls. Diabolo, devil sticks, stilts, spinning plates and poi have also been popular.
Upcoming units may include:
Grades 5-8: Volleyball and Badminton and Ping Pong.
Grades K-4: Jump Rope (long, short, chinese, skip -its etc), underhand rolling games such as bowling.
Hoops for Heart will be taking place the week after February vacation. This event takes place for grades 5-8 during regular P.E. classes. Students will be participating in basketball events such as knockout, 3 point shooting contest and game play.
Jump Rope for Heart will be February 28th for grades K-4. Some scheduling changes may occur. Students will participate in Jump Rope challenges.
What is this Sport Stacking??
Sport Stacking (also known as cup stacking or speed stacking) is an individual and team sport that involves stacking specialized plastic cups in specific sequences in as little time as possible. The governing body setting the rules is the WSSA (World Sport Stacking Association). Participants of sport stacking stack cups in pre-determined sequences, competing against the clock or another player. Sequences are usually pyramids of three, six, or ten cups.
Students in grade K-4 have been working on sequencing and speed with a variety of activities.
Sport cups may be purchased at www.speedstacks.com
Students in grades 5-8 are creating their own physical education games.
5th grade - Tag
6th grade - Capture the Flag

I'm excited to test out the students new games beginning today!
