English Learner (EL) Program Home Page

The English Learner (EL) Program in Wilmington serves a diverse group of students in grades preK - 12 from cultures all around the world.  Their English proficiency ranges from newcomer to advanced, and Wilmington appreciates the cultural richness that they bring to our school community. The ELL program in Wilmington is the Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) model.  Using this research-based model, English language development is provided in both the mainstream classrooms as well as in small group sessions by certified ESL teachers.  The program's goals are for the student to be taught strategies to help them master English, to develop appropriate academic and social skills, and progress in content areas without loss of achievement due to English proficiency level.

This website is designed to help students, parents and teachers get the information needed so that our ELL students can achieve academic success.
