Attention all District Unit Committees!

In order to share with the public the fun and activities of the many events of the district as well as inviting families to join scouting and for the badly needed funding that we all try to help out with, the Public Relations Committee needs your help and cooperation so that we may work with the media to get the word out. 

Four weeks prior to any event, popcorn sale, recruitment effort, etc. we need details and specifics about what is happening, where, date, and time. Event flyers do not give us the details and specifics we need to entice the media to cover what we are doing. We also need an on-site contact person (preferably the one in charge) and a cell phone number to share with the media in case they have questions before arriving. Please put this on your planning agenda as an item to cover so that we do not have to keep asking the chairman for this information. It helps us help Scouting. 

Our effort to have the media cover our activities is twofold. We first send out a press release three weeks in advance of any function Scouting is doing. The newspapers will usually publish the press release so that the public is alerted as well as the newspaper and the TV stations put it on their schedule to cover for the day of the function. Then three to five days before the function, a media notice goes out to remind the media and confirm our activity is happening. This is where we give them a contact person’s phone number.
