Cultural Mandate

Christianity and its relationship to culture can be a very controversial topic. Especially in the current climate of privatized Christianity that has captivated many of the evangelical and conservative churches. Many church leaders see the mission of the church being solely as preaching the Gospel and serving the sacraments. However, this reduces Christianity down to an irrelevant form of religion that limits the total Lordship of Jesus in all of life. Jesus is sovereign over all areas of our lives as well as the whole universe.

When God created man and woman at the beginning of the Creation He gave them the responsibility to mange and develop God's creation. This is known as the cultural mandate. Many believe that after the fall into sin by humans that God has cancelled the cultural mandate. He has not. God seeks to redeem both man and his creation as a part of the Great Commission. The Lordship of Christ is not limited to personal salvation. He is Lord of all his creation and every facet of our lives. Anything gospel message that limits the extent of Christ's Lordship is a false gospel.
