John E. Allen is an adjunct professor of history at American River College. He graduated from CSUSacramento with an M.A. in history. His main emphasis was on the late antique and early medieval periods in Eurasia. He has also done advanced work at Oxford University in Greek and Roman archaeology. He taught at the high school level before starting to teach college courses in World, Asian and Western civilization. He has taught history for the Los Rios Community College District and Chapman University the past 17 years.
Mr. Allen has also worked in the field of public history for over a decade, including at the California State Archives. He has guest-curated exhibits at the Crocker Art Museum, California State Capitol Museum and the Folsom History Museum. Mr. Allen has also worked as a historical consultant on websites and PBS programs and has served on the boards of the Fort Ross Interpretive Association and the Sacramento County Historical Society.
