Special Music for Sunday, September 10:

Handbell Choir!

The handbell choir has commissioned a handbell piece in memory of Ethel Thompson. We wanted to honor her for her many years of dedication and devotion to the choir, both as director and as a ringer. Thanks to the Martland family's handbell fund, we have the money to cover the cost of this project. We asked Larry Sue, who composed the 4-in-hand bell pieces that Lorrie, Ed, and Jeremy often play, to write something for us using "Love Divine, All Loves Excelling," which was one of Ethel's favorites. We just received the finished piece, and are working on it so we can play it in the fall. We will also be recording the demo video for the composer to use on his website! There is a dedication to Ethel on the top of the piece that will appear on every copy he sells. We are very excited to be playing a piece written just for us!

Experience the music of Woodbury!
Our Chancel Choir, open to all who enjoy singing, praises God in song every Sunday, September through June.  We perform music of all styles including contemporary, classical, hymn arrangements, gospel, a cappella and world music.  We also have Special Music such as solos, duets or small groups three Sundays a month, including all summer services.  We occasionally incorporate guitar and rhythm instruments.  All the varied styles of music speak to us in different ways on our faith journey.
Our handbell choir, the Woodbury Ringers, consists of eleven ringers and enriches our worship once a month.  The bells also perform a variety of musical styles and use many different bell techniques in their music.  As Special Music, we occasionally have bell solos, duets, trios or a quintet.
We also have a group of five women called "One Voice" who frequently sing together and have made a CD of their most loved songs.
We often hold special events during the year - concerts, a talent show, a cantata and Music in the Village are some examples.
A typical Sunday service consists of a prelude, postlude and offertory played on our beautiful pipe organ, a choir anthem and responses, special music and congregational hymns from "The Worshipping Church" or an alternative hymnal.  In the summer months, we have a hymn sing starting at 9:45, where people in the congregation choose their favorite hymns to sing before church begins at 10:00.
