Lighthouse Bazaar/Christmas in the Village
Saturday, November 11, 2017
The Lighthouse Christmas Woodbury Church Bazaar is weeks away on Nov. 11th from 9am to 3pm. We are working hard at getting everyone on board with the preparations and planning to make it into another successful event. However, we still need your help, and plead for more of your assistance in various areas, and ask that you give people a call and let them know where you can help out. Fudge: Bob Davidson needs 9 x 12 pans of fudge baked in advance and brought to the church by Nov. 8th. If you can make a pan or 2, please call Bob at 738-2998. Do not cut your fudge in advance and please put a parchment paper on the bottom of the pan. We are asking for standard fudge recipes with or without nuts; but no fruits. Baked Goods: Ginny O’Neill needs people to sign up for baking. You can bake cookies, pies, brownies, cakes, breads and so much more anytime and put them in the freezer and bring them the day before of the event. Please call Ginny and let her know what you will bake at 345-9935. Baskets: We never seem to have enough people to sign up for baskets. You do not have to put the basket together, we will do that for you. Just give us a list of the items you purchased and approximate value, and we will do the work. For what it is worth, wine baskets were our biggest sellers last year. Please do not exceed a $25 value. We appreciate basket donations, too. Many people have lots of baskets just hanging around. Please call Evvie Deering to let her know what you can offer. 739-4051. Gourmet Table: We will be featuring an assortment of trail mixes, cookie and muffin jars, pickles and relishes, jams and jellies, baked beans, homemade brown bread, soups, chili, and some new items! We appreciate all donations from the wonderful Woodbury cooks! We are looking for canning jars again this year... especially small 4 oz., pints, half pints (jelly jar size), with or without covers. Donations of soups, jams, jellies, cookie jar mixes, relishes, etc. for our table from the wonderful Woodbury cooks are very much appreciated! Contact Jane Tarring 732-0397 or Joyce Slinn 738-7489
Attic Treasures: The “Church Men” ask that if you have any gently used items that are still saleable, please bring them to the church the day before the bazaar. If you do not drive anymore and need someone to swing by your home, call Dave Mansfield at 781-1628 or George Tarring at 732-0397.
Kitchen: The kitchen is being organized by Deb Morisseau. If you would like to help out, please call Deb Morisseau at 941-6515.
We are working diligently to make crafts in advance. The Crafters come every Wednesday night starting Oct. 25th, and Nov. 1st from 6:30 to 8pm; and we will do the final fixings on the baskets on November 8th. We invite everyone to participate, even those who are all thumbs. We really appreciate everyone’s participation and writing this on your schedule. We are making gel candles and scented molded soaps in advance and will be packaging them at the workshop and doing more cards. If you can do crafts at home and bring them to us in advance, we would be ever so grateful. Call Marilyn Baker at 738-9851.
We have 10 outside vendors (5 new), with varying genres. We have changed it up a little this year and have invited some great new ideas. We will be putting up posters all over li’l Rhody, so we expect a huge turnout. Please pick up a poster for your local grocery store, library, barber shop, etc. Everyone has said that it is great that we have focused on a theme separating us from all of the rest of the bazaars. Even though we are focusing on Lighthouses and Nautical, we will have a lot of other items that do not fit the theme. Also, if you have a new item you want to donate to the raffle table, we will be more than thankful. Leslie Derrig: 603-0787

Shrove Pancake Supper
Shrove Tuesday heralds the beginning of fasting during Lent. Historically on this day, there were feasts of pancakes to use up the supplies of fat, butter and eggs-foods that were once forbidden during Lent.
