I was born in Detroit, Michigan and grew up with four sisters and two brothers. Childhood was a time spent playing outdoors catching crickets and climbing trees until dark. Baseball was my favorite sport. Life wasn't all fun and games though. At the tender age of five I was carted off to school. I cried the first day of kindergarten. Things began to look up by 1st grade, however. A drawing of mine, Horse with Feedbag was tacked up on the bulletin board. Who knew I could draw! I ended up studying art at Wayne State University and graduated with a degree in printmaking. Becoming a father meant weekly trips to the library with my daughter. I was re-introduced to the wonderful world of children's books. I had learned to read with Dick and Jane. My how things change! Seeing all the wonderful art gave me an idea. My first attempts at story writing were politely rejected with the standard form letter. But through perseverance EEK! There’s a Mouse in the House was plucked out of the slush pile by Houghton Mifflin. To think, Curious George and I under the same roof! That was in 1992. Nowadays I keep life simple by focusing on the 3 Rs: reading, riting (this is why we have copy editors!), and riding (my bicycle, that is). It all adds up to adventure, and hopefully, between the covers of another picture book. My early reader, Mouse and Mole Fine Feathered Friends received a 2010 Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor Award.
