Women and Money:  Lifting the Fog

A Salon
Conversations for an economy that sustains life

We are a community who are shifting our relationship with money from a consumption-driven paradigm to a paradigm of giving, caring and ‘enough’ to co-create an economic future for humanity that sustains life on earth.

We are here to examine our stories and beliefs, and develop new ways of being and relating around money and the economy.  We do this by practicing our four tenets: workability, education, training & development, and building community.

- Workability – we practice integrity (making and keeping promises) and competence (managing conflict and finding resolution) in all areas of our lives.

- Education – we stay informed about the current economy as well as emerging ideas for a new economy by reading, participating in conferences and talks, and sharing with others.

- Training and Development – we expand our personal growth & development, and awareness by participating in life-enriching programs.

- Building Community – we reach out to other communities with similar missions, create new $alons and engage our communities in the vision and activities of the $alon.

By applying these tenets in our lives, we invent new ways of being with ourselves and money, ourselves and our communities, ourselves and the economy, ourselves and the world.  By educating ourselves, and sharing our education with others, we are causing a shift/creating a bridge between paradigms.

We also hold 1-hour long Mini Workshops before each $alon.  These workshops are designed to give us new knowledge, new practices and new ways of being more powerful.  They can be related to money and the economy but are not limited to that topic.

Format:

A circle of  women with a speaker telling her story of personal transformation around money and the economy.  Participants then break into smaller groups and discuss the questions posed. Everyone rejoins the circle and shares their insights and the actions they are willing to take.

We also hold 1-hour long Mini Workshops before each $alon.  These workshops are designed to give us new knowledge, new practices and new ways of being more powerful.  They can be related to money and the economy but are not limited to that topic.

Women and Money Salon # 29

Sunday, September 29, 2013

from  3:00pm to 6:00pm

Daniela's home - 1260 Mayberry Lane - San José, Ca 95131

Over our last 28 Salons we have had a variety of conversations: we looked at our personal finances and fears related to money and realized money doesn't define us. We studied the history of money and what gave rise to our debt-based economy.  We examined how we live in a paradigm of scarcity and found access to a world of abundance rooted in our collective, shared intelligence. We had a glimpse of what could work.

Now, before narrowing our focus on solutions, let’s  instead "widen back." It’s time to look at the looking -- how we receive information and what our experiences teach us. Are we looking for a savior who will help us handle our money once and for all? Are we looking for the ultimate solution to all of our problems?

Are we willing to stay in the un-knowing and stand in un-certainty? Are we willing to be both teacher and student? To honor that we are all part of the same landscape and end the isolation of ‘it's just me?’ When we give up the belief that someone else's expertise will solve the problem what emerges is our collective experience and intelligence.

At this Salon, through group discussion and exercise, we will discover what it means to be ‘teacher and student.’ Out of this discovery we will:

  • Share a knowing, collective intelligence as a framework for solving seemingly insurmountable problems, like our unsustainable economy
  • Be released from isolation and survival
  • Be inspired to take social action as delicious joy, free from obligation, pressure and guilt
