Miscellaneous News

Raelee Hill (Sikozu) has a major role in a new Australian film, The Final Winter.  The film was recently screened at the Sydney Film Festival.  Nathaniel Dean (Jothee in PK Wars) also has a major role in this film.

Murray Bartlett (DK) landed a recurring role on the daytime soap opera, The Guiding Light.  The FS Cognoscente is no fan of soaps, but may have to put this show on the DVR schedule.

Ben Browder (John Crichton) made an appearance at the premiere of the new Jackie Chan movie.  A quick interview with him at the event can be found here (registration required).

Farscape lands at #4 on the TV Guide list of Top 30 Cult TV Shows.  (Farscape was #4 last year, too.)  If you're wondering why Farscape would beat out other shows, such as Monty Python, Lost, or Battlestar Galactica, check out this blog post, which provides a very good explanation.

Gigi Edgeley (Chiana), Virginia Hey (Zhaan), Lani Tupu (Captain Crais), and David Franklin (Lieutenant Braca) will all be appearing at the autograph table at the upcoming San Diego ComicCon convention.  They'll be there Friday and Saturday only.

Does Claudia Black (Aeryn Sun) have a very small role in the upcoming NBC Series pilot, Life?  Check out the comments at this blog post, where someone says just exactly that.  Evidently, her part is very small -- if indeed this rumor is true.

Gigi Edgely in Starter Wife

The last scheduled episode of Starter Wife is airing Thursday night, June 28th, on the USA cable channel.  Gigi Edgley (Chiana) has had a small, recurring role in this mini-series.  The Farscape Cognoscente has been reliably informed that should the network decide to pick up this series, Ms. Edgely can expect to continue in this role.  Although it is beyond the FS Cognoscente's comprehension as to why, so far the indications are that this series has been performing satisfactorily for the network.  Despite that, there's no news yet on its future.  Although FS Cognoscenti finds the series dull and predictable, Ms. Edgely outshines her material, and as the Farscape Fanatic that the Cognoscenti is, this show will always find a spot on the Cognoscenti's DVR.

SG-1 Finale Delivers

The FS Cognoscente has been dutifully watching Ben Browder (John Crichton) and Claudia Black (Aeryn Sun) in their roles on Stargate SG-1 on the SciFi Channel.  Although both Farscape alumni have helped breathe some life into this, um...venerable series, the Cognoscente has been unable to escape noticing that the ratings have been slowly descending.

Therefore it caused some small satisfaction to read the following release published on Futon Critic:

America's longest running sci-fi television series ended with a bang, delivering more viewers in key demos than even its broadcast competition. The series finale of Stargate SG-1 (Friday, June 22, 2007 @ 8pm) delivered a 1.7 HH rating, 1.2 million P25-54s, 1.1 million P18-49s and 2.2 million total viewers P2+.

The FS Cognoscente must also slyly point out to the reader that SciFi's ratings for their standard SciFi Friday offerings have all been sliding, and notes that the introduction of a new show, Painkiller Jane, has not been able to reverse this trend.

Mr. Browder and Ms. Black have already started their next project, which is the filming of two direct-to-video SG-1 movies.  They are expected to be released next year.  The FS Cognoscenti does not hold out hope that these movies will be any more interesting than the series was, but will dutifully order the DVDs from Amazon just as soon as they become available.
