GUIDE TO COMPETITIVE BOWLING FOR ALL CLUB MEMBERS AND HOW TO ENTER

 

As a new bowler you should have been introduced to the Beginners Australian Pairs League which will probably have been your first experience of competitive bowling. There are a number of other areas of competitive bowling available to all club members and below is guidance on how to enter..

CLUB COMPETITIONS

The Club runs the following competitions :-         

Men’s Singles Championship

Ladies Singles Championship

Men’s Singles Handicap

Ladies Singles Handicap

0pen Singles  (open to all members)

Two Wood Singles  (open to all members)

Men’s Pairs

Ladies Pairs

Drawn Pairs

Mixed Pairs  (entered as a pair)

Winners of the men’s and ladies singles are entered by the club in the following seasons National Champion of champion competitions.

Entry to the club competitions is included on your annual membership renewal form. The draw takes place during May and 3-4 weeks are available for each round to be played, with the   onus on the first named player to offer dates.

The club also organises a drawn triples knockout competition played on fixed dates, see next years fixture list / notice board  for detail.

Spring and Autumn pairs competitions are arranged each year to be played on the artificial green.

 

COUNTY COMPETITIONS

The county organise competitions for Singles, Pairs, Triples, Rinks & two wood singles for both men and Ladies.                                                   

The finalists of the above competitions are invited to represent the County in the National Championships held At Leamington Spa in August of each year.

The county also organise supplementary competitions to include Benevolent Triples, unbadged singles and over 55 rinks for both Men and Ladies.

Entry is by way of adding your name to the County Entry form displayed on the Club notice board at the end of the season, an entry fee is applicable to each event. It is advisable to organise a team for pairs, triples and fours before entering.

Play is on fixed dates published by the County in the Spring of the next year and can be found on the County Website. The games are normally played in May and June.

NATIONAL COMPETITIONS

Bowls England organise the following competitions:-

Mixed Pairs

Mixed Fours (Two Ladies & Two Men)

Men’s and Ladies Senior (over 55) Singles and Pairs

Family Pairs

Entry is by way of a form or on the Bowls England website, please speak to the club captains if you are interested in playing and have difficulty entering.

You will be notified by e-mail or post as to your first match and then you are given two weeks for each round should you be successful. If you are named as the challenger you are responsible for match arrangements and giving 3 dates to your opponents.

Should you remain successful you will play at the National championships in August.

 For home draws in both County and National Competitions you are expected to provide refreshments.

 The Club also enters a number of team events from Bucks Cup/Trundle Trophy to National Top Club and Double Rinks, Bletchley League etc.
