Luke Moodie (Sr, F) scored his team leading 21st and 22nd goals of the season while Andrew Hare (Sr, G) made 30 saves as the Lakers skated to their 2nd SUNYAC Championship in four years and ninth in program history on Saturday night at the Campus Center Ice Arena. The Lakers used a pair of late-period goals in the first and second periods to jump out to a 2-0 lead. At 15:52 of the first, Tyler Leimbrock (Sr, F) finished off an impressive passing play, taking a feed from Matt Singleton (Sr, F), who had received the puck from David Titanic (Jr, F). Leimbrock flipped it over the shoulder of Cardinal goaltender Mathieu Cadieux for a 1-0 Oswego State lead. At the 18:29 mark of the 2nd, during a delayed penalty against Plattsburgh, Moodie shot a puck off the skate of Plattsburgh defenseman Jared Docking and into the net behind Cadieux. The Lakers carried a 2-0 lead into the 2nd intermission.
Oswego would put the game away at 7:54 of the third when Moodie struck again, taking a pass from Chris Brown out of the left wing corner and converting on a shot from the slot for a three goal Laker lead. Two minutes later, with the Cardinals on the powerplay, Plattsburgh pulled Cadieux for an extra attacker, but after killing off the penalty, captain Jon Whitelaw (Sr, F) found the empty net at 13:59 to make it a 4-0 game, which would stand up as the final score. Andrew Hare was awarded tournament MVP with his 6th shutout of the season and second career blanking of Plattsburgh. With the win, the Lakers receive an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, and will play next either Wednesday or Saturday, depending on their NCAA selection, coming Sunday night. The Cardinals are unlikely to receive a bid to the tournament.
