Technical Writer

Full-time, up to 25% travel may be required

Warren, Michigan

The Technical Writer will organize, plan, and direct technical writing, in the areas of logistic engineering/maintenance and validation/verification activities for Military Programs. Interface with clients on TM and Logistic Engineering issues.

Essential Functions include, but are not limited to:  (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.)

Establish and/or enforce quality standards for TM and logistic engineering deliverables and ensure that a plan is developed and/or followed to meet overall program objectives as defined by the Technical Writing Supervisor. 

Perform initial analysis activities to ensure a thorough understanding of each requirement.

Perform validation and verification of mechanical and diagnostic processes on equipment.

Develop technical manual and training documentation as defined by the Technical Writing Supervisor, contract and/or Military standard. 

Consistently meet program and quality objectives for technical data products.

Follow written or provided Technical Writing Development processes.  

Other duties as assigned.

Technical Writer

US Citizenship is required. Applicant must have proven writing ability with background in technical communication. Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools is essential. Basic knowledge of software development principles is valuable.

Technical Writer Responsibilities

  • The candidate must be able to collect information from technical people and create readable documents.
Plan, develop, organize, write and edit operational procedures and manuals.
Research, develop and document technical design specifications and test scripts.

  • Produce electronic documentation in addition to hard copy manuals.

  • Maintain a comprehensive library of technical terminology and documentation.

  • Analyze documents to maintain continuity of style of content.

  • Manage updates and revisions to technical literature.

Technical Writer Skills: 

  • Required
Bachelor's Degree or 5 years of equivalent experience
  • Technical Writing Certificate Desired

  • Proven experience working in a technical writing position

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficiency in MS Office
Strong attention to detail
Ability to write in explanatory and procedural styles for multiple audiences
