Tribute to Jean Kloos

In April 2012 Witney Leys Badminton Club suffered a sad loss with the tragic death of Jean Kloos our Assistant Head Coach following a diagnosis of cancer just a few months previously.

Jean was a member of the club for 12 years, and had quickly proved to be a very fit, vibrant, energetic and enthusiastic lady, who devoted herself during the early years to the improvement of the club and in particular our juniors, gaining her level 1 and 2 coaching qualifications in short order. She also involved herself in the OBL, arranging and managing numerous tournaments for juniors across Oxfordshire, and even starting her own classes in the Wychwoods. All this activity ultimately resulted in her being awarded Coach of the Year for 2006 by West Oxfordshire District Council.

Jean loved her badminton and tennis and devoted huge amounts of time to both, despite managing her day job as a PR consultant, mother and dog walker. Always available whenever there was a shortage of players, or a problem, she never hesitated in seeking a solution, or taking on the challenge herself.

Jean never ceased to give her all for the club, even serving a stint as chairman and finally as our press officer ensuring constant publicity for the club via the Witney Gazette, as well as providing the weekly newsletter to all club members.

Jean will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her, and badminton, the club, the OBL and Oxfordshire has lost a lovely lady.
