Track & Field

Who Can Participate: Our team is open to homeschooled students and students at schools without a track and field program.

Grades: Track and Field is for 5th-12th grades.

Teams: Wisdom Builders Track & Field is composed of four teams. Middle School (5th - 8th grade) boys and girls and High School (9th - 12th grade) boys and girls.

Physicals: Everyone must have a current physical to join the team. The physicals are due before a student can practice, and are good for one year.

Uniforms: All athletes must wear a Wisdom Builders uniform.

Opponents: We compete against private and public schools, primarily in the Indianapolis area.

Meets: Our teams compete in 6-8 meets during the season. Most of our meets are with 3-4 teams or in larger invitational meets.

Cuts: We do not cut athletes. However, due to a limited number of lanes and time, not all athletes can be sprinters, jumpers, or throwers. Coaches reserve the right to limit athletes in these events to manageable numbers in both practices and meets. During the first few weeks of practice, sprint, jumps, and throw coaches will be evaluating athletes for the limited number of positions. Athletes beyond the manageable number will be moved to distance events.

Practice Requirements (running events): We have 4 practices per week. Practicing together helps each athlete to be in the best shape possible for meets. However, we know that families are busy, so we ask that athletes commit to attending at least 3 practices per week.

Practice Times: Practices start promptly at 6:30 pm and end at approximately 8:00 pm (8:30 as daylight allows for those participating in field events).

Practice Locations: Most practices are held at the old Westfield High School Track.

What to Bring: Bring water bottles to every practice and every meet. Wear layers. Early in the season it can be very cold out, but practice will go on. We will practice when it is cold, wet, and/or raining. Be sure to wear or bring, hats and gloves. Dress so that you can shed layers as you warm up through the workout.

Athlete Expectations:
  • Try your best, be encouraging to all team members, and have a Christ-like attitude.
  • Be respectful of coaches and parent helpers.
  • Be modest in practice attire
  • Be on time for practices and meets.
  • Keep the practice and meet locations clean and exhibit a respect for the property at practices and meets.
  • At meets, show great sportsmanship and encourage other team members when they are competing.
Costs: Cost is $60 per child currently enrolled in classes at Wisdom Builders and $85 per child who is not currently enrolled at Wisdom Builders. There is an additional cost for a Wisdom Builders track uniform.

Paperwork: Those not enrolled at Wisdom Builders must fill out the liability, parent consent, and statement of faith forms. These forms are good for one school year at a time. Athletes who ran for Wisdom Builders Cross Country do not need to fill out the forms again.

Season Length: March to May

Parents: Parents are welcome to come and run with the team. Parents will be needed at meets and occasional practices to help with timing, recording times, recording results for field events, etc....

Additional Costs: All runners should have a good pair of running shoes. Running shoe stores such as Athletic Annex, Blue Mile, and Runners Forum offer gait analysis and shoe fitting. These stores also generally give a small discount for track teams.
