Cross Country

Who Can Participate: Our team is open to homeschooled students and students at schools without a cross country program.

Grades: Cross Country is for 5th-12th grades.

Teams: Wisdom Builders Track & Field is composed of four teams. Middle School (5th - 8th grade) boys and girls and High School (9th - 12th grade) boys and girls.

Physicals: Everyone must have a current physical in order to join the team. The physicals are  due before a student can practice, and are good for one year.

Uniforms: All athletes must wear a Wisdom Builders  uniform.

Opponents: We compete against private and public schools, primarily in the Indianapolis area.

Meets: Most of our meets are with 3-4 teams or in larger invitational meets.

Practice Requirements: We have 3 days per week. We know that families are busy, so we ask that runners commit to attend at least 2 practices per week and completing workouts they miss on their own.

Practice Times: Practices start promptly at 6:00 pm and end at approximately 7:30 pm.

Practice Locations: Practices are held at Northview Church in Carmel.

What to Bring: Bring water bottles to every practice and every meet. Early in the season it can be very warm and humid. We will practice when it is hot, cold, wet, and/or raining. Be sure to dress accordingly. As the weather gets colder, dress so that you can shed layers as you warm up through the workout.

Athlete Expectations:
  • Try your best, be encouraging to all team members, and have a Christ-like attitude.
  • Be respectful of coaches and parent helpers.
  • Be modest in practice attire.
  • Be on time for practices and meets.
  • Keep the practice and meet locations clean and exhibit a respect for the property at practices and meets.
  • At meets, show great sportsmanship and encourage other team members when they are competing.
Costs: Cost is $60 per child currently enrolled in classes at Wisdom Builders and $85 per child who is not currently enrolled at Wisdom Builders. Those not enrolled at Wisdom Builders must fill out the liability, parent consent, and statement of faith forms. These forms are good for one school year at a time.

Season Length: August to October

Parents: Parents are welcome to come and run with the team. Parents will be needed at meets and occasional practices to help with timing and recording splits.

Additional Costs: All runners should have a good pair of running shoes. Running shoe stores such as Athletic Annex, Blue Mile, and Runners Forum offer gait analysis and shoe fitting. These stores also generally give a small discount for track/cross country teams.
