CYBER-PHYSICAL MARIO KART!

Here you will find all the necessary information related to our project, completed as part of our summer internship with WINLAB (Wireless Information Network Laboratory) at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.

Purpose

To design and develop a virtual reality simulation of the game Mario Kart for a human driver on a real go-cart within a test track. A Crazy Cart XL, an Oculus Rift DK2, a Google Tango tablet, and other electronics and sensors were provided as a starting base.

Method

The accomplishment of this goal requires the completion of several components. The project ca

n be broadly divided into a few categories, within which the individual components may be sorted. In no order of importance, they are listed below.

  • The virtual reality world and associated elements
  • Interfacing of onboard electronics and sensors
  • Semi-autonomous safety protocol for protection of cart and driver

Other non-trivial but mentionable endeavors include mechanical additions and modifications to cart, conceptualization of localization via sensors, and more.
