Galactic for Windows
Current Version of Galactic for Windows: Release 8
11 March 2024
Galactic v2.4c for Windows is the Galactic 2.4c code modified and compiled to run as native 32-bit Windows programs.
The source code required some changes to the original QB source code to be successfully compiled to run under Windows. Otherwise there has been no change to functionality or operation.
The modified BASIC code is included in the package.
You also require Jim Vassilakos' original MSDOS version of Galactic 2.4c. You can download it here if you currently don't have it.

Extras
This download contains 2 batch files
NoteEdit: Forces Notepad to open maximised.
NoteRead: Forces Notepad to open maximised.
Makes the text file read-only while open i.e. simulates the intent of the Galactic Text Reader.
Put these files in your Galactic folder and set the Editor to NoteEdit and the Reader to NoteRead.
Alternative to using Notepad
Windows Notepad has been made the default Editor and Reader as it is on all Windows systems. One disadvantage with Notepad is that is must be closed with a mouse click (the ESC key doesn't work.) This disrupts the all keyboard approach used in Galactic. If you find this annoying may I suggest the notepad-like freeware program 'WIN32PAD' which can be closed with the ESC key. Just install this in your program folder and set it as the Editor/Reader.
