 Managing News Editor for a weekly county-seat newspaper

Wrote, edited, designed and oversaw reporter/sports reporter and designer for a weekly paper that represents Klickitat County, Washington. I am proficient in AP style, Quark Express and InDesign. I laid out 80% of the news pages, including the front page and editorial page. I trained an inexperienced employee to be an award-winning journalist. As part of the editorial board, I worked with the general manager and publisher on improving the paper and developing special sections. I covered, as a journalist, state, county and local politics, economic development, energy issues and education issues. I also wrote a weekly editorial and produced the content for the editorial page. Advertising revenue and readership increased. Increased stakeholders commitment to the community.

South Valley Newspapers/Main Street Media, 2003-2005

Freelance Wine Columnist,  news/lifestyle journalist and photographer

 Wrote weekly wine column and business column in Hollister Freelance, interview and write features on local personalities for Gilroy Dispatch. Readership and advertising has increased.


Santa Clara Valley Wine Growers Association, Executive Director, 2001-2003

Provided management leadership for a start-up trade association of 15 wineries, grape growers and business-related affiliate members.

My efforts in destination marketing, public relations and branding of region and industry increased tasting room visits by 50%. Political lobbying eliminated certain permit fees for winery start ups saving wineries over $1000 per year. Community outreach and business to business partnership building increased business affiliate membership by 200%.

 

West Hollywood Avenues of Art and Design, Executive Director, 1999-2001

Developed and managed Business Improvement District of 400 design showrooms, art galleries, and specialty shops.

Public relations, marketing, and advertising efforts increased district awareness by 30% and brought new consumers to the businesses. Monthly Art Walks increased customer base by 40%. Design Walk event increased attendance from 25,000 to 50,000. High end corporate sponsorships provided 30% increase in budget.
