France_Loire_Chateaumeillant

One of the more obscure appellations in the Loire Valley, this 100 ha appellation is in between St. Pourcain and Touraine. There is no white wine made here, only red, most of which is Gamay. There is also some Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris of which some are used for red wine and others for rose wine.

The wines are in a fresh style with big tannins, but are generally light and well-fruited. The roses are what stand out and are what is recognized most by the international wine community.

The wines typically retail between $10 and $20.
