France_Burgundy_Cote de Beaune_Pernand Vergelesses

If Pernand-Vergelesses were called Pernand-Charlemagne, the wines would be much more expensive and gladly they aren't as whites and reds labeled Pernand-Vergelesses are some of the best values in all of Burgundy.

Aloxe-Corton, Ladoix-Serrigny and Pernand-Vergelesses all share the Grand Cru vineyard of Corton Charlemagne. Pernand has two 1er Cru's that people seem to confuse all the time. Les Vergelesses and Ile de Vergelesses. While both can be very good, Ile de Vergelesses is the far superior vineyard and maybe the best 1er Cru in all of Pernand. Both of these vineyards make exceptional age-worthy wines. The Ile de Vergelesses from Chandon de Brialles is particularly noteworthy. Seventeen of the seventy-two hectares in Pernand are designated as Grand Cru Corton Charlemagne.
Aligote from this area is very special and some say when it ages it resembles white Pernand. The most famous producer based in Pernand is Bonneau de Martray and they only make Grand Cru.

The reds tend to be soft, jammy and sometimes have trouble ripening as many of its vineyards have a north or even north west exposition, while the whites have wonderful precision, focus and minerality.
