Another little-known and very overlooked appellation, Maranges is southwest of Santenay and was created in 1989 from the even lesser well known appellations of Cheilly-les-Maranges, Deize-les-Maranges and Sampigny-les-Maranges. Before this, Maranges wines were mainly sold as Cote de Beaune-Villages. Maranges is one of the all time leading value wines in al of Burgundy. Rustic and charming with lovely gritty fruit. They also age surprisingly well. But, beware as Marnages in less skilled hands can become overly rustic.
