An appellation that is often overlooked (as its more popular neighbor Pouilly-Fuisse gets all the spotlight) is the small 51 ha appellation of Pouilly-Vinzelles. The only producer to gain any notoriety is the Bret Brothers at the Domaine de la Soufrandiere. Before that, the local co-op sold all of the wine, but Soufrandiere has single handedly put the appellation on the map.

The location of the vineyards are southeast of the vineyards of Fuisse. The wines tend to be lighter than the wines from neighboring Fuisse and come around a bit earlier. They still have lovely, deep, penetrative flavors of apple, pear and a playful minerality and some toasty oak as the Bret Brothers are not shy in that aspect.

Near Pouilly-Vinzelles there is a an even smaller appellation called Pouilly-Loche which can and usually does sell its wine under the Pouilly-Vinzelles label.
