Friends of the Canal

Custodians of a historical, recreational and natural gem.

The 4.5 mile Windsor Locks State Canal Trail follows the towpath of an historic waterway.  The trail offers users scenic vistas of both the Connecticut River and the old Windsor Locks Canal.  It is a safe, level paved path; a great place for bicycling, walking or jogging.  Park benches dot the way.  Sandy beaches and breaks in vegetation offer openings for fishing in both the river and canal.  Several picnic tables surround a grassy area next to the Canal Road parking lot.  A wide variety of wildlife inhabit the area and can be easily observed.
