SummerFest 2016

Detroit River Heritage Paddle Flotilla
Saturday June 25, 2016 - Windsor Ontario
The Windsor Essex County Canoe Club with co-sponsor Windsor Parade Corp. in Conjunction with Paddle Canada and National Paddling Week will host a mass gathering flotilla of Kayaks / Canoes and Voyageur Canoes in celebration of Canada’s Deep South at the Heart of the Great Lakes.
The Club is also collecting can goods or a monetary donation to assist our local food banks all in part of the WECCC's Outreach Program.

All participants must follow the Outing Requirements on the left, we have the right to refuse any participant.
Come join the paddling flotilla for the 14-km (8-mile) water parade along the City of Windsor Shoreline and its extensive waterfront parks system. The event offers a unique urban paddling experience with spectacular skyline views of Windsor Ontario and Detroit Michigan. The Detroit River is the only waterway in North America that denotes Historic Heritage River Status in both Canada and the USA.
* Float Plan / Shuttle: The fleet put-in is at Kayak Cove in Shanfield Shores Park on the Peche Island Channel next to the City Lakeview Park Marina in east Windsor/Riverside. There is plenty of free parking in the city lots across Riverside Drive from the put-n. There are washrooms available at the marina next door. All participants are to unload and drop off boats at Kayak Cove before 9:00am. Volunteers will remain with boats and gear while participants drive vehicles down to the take-out at Chewett Beach in McKee Park just downstream from the International Ambassador Bridge. Arrangements have been made for a bus to shuttle participants back up to Kayak Cove. This shuttle bus departs Chewett Beach at 9:20am sharp. The mass flotilla is to be on the water for a 10:00am start from Kayak Cove.
Participants in the club Voyageur Montreal Canoe must pre-register. WECCC members will get first choice of seat availability. The Montreal Canoe will depart from the marina boat ramps near the Historic Pelee Passage Lighthouse Heritage Structure just west of Kayak Cove.
The flotilla will follow the Windsor Shoreline as one group. Downtown at Dieppe Park Windsor Parade Corp. will announce our arrival as part of Summer Fest. We then proceed under the Ambassador Bridge to our take-out at Chewett Beach. Our goal is to be off the water before 1:00pm and the Tug Boat Races. All participants are invited back downtown to Dieppe Park with boats and vehicles to enjoy a free lunch compliments of Windsor Parade and be provided best seats in the house to view the Tug Boat Races.
