is a nine-minute audio of a heartbeat that I made. I
find it relaxes me and lets me sleep better. My theory is that it acts
as a metronome for the heart, setting the beat, thus freeing enzymes or
ions that would otherwise have to perform the task to be able to do
I downloaded it to my ephone and put it next to my head
when I go to sleep. It is very soft. I can't even hear it while I am
around with the covers, but after everything is still and quiet I can
hear it faintly in the background. I usually fall asleep while it is
playing and the phone turns itself off when it is done. If I wake
during the night, I will often re-start it because it is very soothing
in ways that I can't actually describe but it does make me feel better.
I also find it useful to catch a quick nap during the day when I have
enough time for a short sleep but not enough time to wind down from the
day to be able to fall asleep in the first place. Some research on the
internet indicates that the sound of a heart beating can be used
therapeutically, but usually for infants. One site said that the beat
rate I chose, 55 bpm, is perfect for inducing deep delta R.E.M sleep.
don't know how or why this should be so, only that it feels good to me
to listen to it. I
am putting it here in the hopes that some people will try it out and
let me know how it affects them, if at all. If you find that listening
to this heartbeat sound does have any effect on you, please email me
and let me know. Thanks.
