Winchester Mayfest 2017
Saturday 20th May 2017 - was great. This year it will be on Saturday 19th May 2018
The Winchester Mayfest is a great event with lots of Morris dancing and other displays right in the centre of Winchester.
On 20th May the Winchester Mayfest will be hosting lots of Morris dance teams as usual, and towards the end of the day will be a mass dance for audience participation. Then from 5pm the Guildhall will be open and Cath Watkins will be running a music and song session in the bar leading up to the Ceilidh that starts at 7.30.
Sides dance at sites all around the centre of the city, the High Street, Square and especially in front of the cathedral. In and St Lawrence's church and the cathedral grounds there are performances and workshops, including Circus skills for young and old. See the events page.
Another highlight of the day is the Mayor's show, where each side will perform one dance for the Mayor of Winchester. This year it will take place in the Abbey Gardens starting at 2pm. The public mass dance will follow at 3.30.

The event is a festival and is called Mayfest simply because it is run in May each year. The Mayfest has been an event in Winchester for many years, under various guises and we hope that the Winchester Mayfest will continue for many more years to come. Please come to the Mayfest and see what it is all about.
