Salisbury Stamp & Postcard Show

This will be held at the Five Rivers Leisure Centre, Hulse Road, Salisbury on Friday/Saturday 20th/21st October 2017

We have tables available for clubs and societies, it would be great to see some of you there.  There are only 4 left so it will have to be on a first come, first served basis.  If you would like to book one please contact Melvyn Philpott <salisburystampshow@gmail.com>

Changes to the calendar

posted 2 May 2016, 08:31 by Bob Harding   [ updated 8 Sep 2017, 03:36 ]

We're changing the format of the calendar a little so that key information s a little easier to get to.

rather than just having "Bristol - Club night" we now intend to put in a very brief comment about the topic.  more details will naturally be available by clicking the link.

Hope this helps.  Naturally this will take a little time to 'work through' the system but hopefully all new dates will be added this way.

Recent Website Updates

posted 8 Mar 2016, 12:51 by Bob Harding

We've been working hard to make the website as relevant as possible and are always looking to make this the best place for people to find out information about the federation.

We've recently been working on the rules for the current 9 sheet competition and have also been digging in the archives to find past winners.  The best entry in the show is awarded the Renton Trophy and all past winners are now listed on the website

We've also been working on the List of Distinguished Philatelists and the winners of the Victor Hutchinson Award and think that we have most of these listed as well.

Newsletter on it's way

posted 24 Feb 2016, 04:08 by Bob Harding

We noticed that the 'Dates for your Diary' section of the last newsletter only went to the middle of March so we're going to put an update together.  We anticipate that the update will just be 1 piece of paper (ie 2 sides) so quite brief - the next full newsletter will be around May time.

Swindon Fair - more good news

posted 15 Feb 2016, 03:07 by Bob Harding

From all accounts the inaugural fair run by the Swindon Society on 23rd Jan was a great success.

Seven dealers were present and all were happy with business, the buyers certainly had a good time. The committee has decided that there will be no admission charge from now on - so that is definitely good news.

Fairs only work if people 'turn up' so if you've not been to a Swindon Fair yet and can spare the time one Saturday they would love to see you. The next fairs are 27 February, 26 March, 23 April and 28 May, Swindon Society members would love to see you there.

OH ... and don't forget Swinpex on the 13th June - described by one 'Stamp Fair' dealer as the "best event outside London".

Tips for competitions

posted 19 Jan 2016, 13:23 by Bob Harding

Many of you will know Malcolm Watts from his many delightful presentations - most recently of the 'Wiltshire Moonraker' variety. Most will also know that Malcolm is also a philatelic judge with much experience.

Malcolm has been thinking about a few tips for people new to presenting - the sort of thing that he looks for and what presenters might like to consider.  He has been kind enough to share his notes and we have uploaded them to the 'Useful Files' section (look in the 'downloads' tab).

This isn't intended as a 'check list' to get you the most marks but rather as a series of things to think about for a successful entry. Thank you Malcolm.

Swindon Stamp Fair lives on

posted 19 Jan 2016, 13:07 by Bob Harding

Many people were dismayed that the great Swindon stamp fair ceased.  The last fair at the community centre in Rodburne Cheney was in November.

We are delighted to tell you that members of the Swindon Philatelic Society have taken the event 'under their wing' and it lives again with the inaugural event being on the 23rd January 2016.  The new venue is the Lawn Community centre ... the details are:

We have obtained a special internet address for the federation ... we are now 'officially'
www.wiltsfed.org.uk

Everything will now start to be linked to this name so hopefully communication will start to improve and become much easier
