FROM THE BLURB:
Years have gone by since the death of Noah, his special needs son, and Wiley Cantrell realizes it’s time to move on. He and his husband, Jackson Ledbetter, try to adopt little Tony Gorzola, a deaf boy with HIV who is emotionally traumatized.

Difficulties quickly set in. Tony is a sweet boy but very damaged by abuse and neglect. And Tony’s mother, in prison, is unwilling to relinquish her parental rights. No sooner do they get the go ahead to foster Tony when another child they had considered becomes available—the daughter Jackson always wanted.

With two children on their hands, life is complicated—wonderfully so. But just as things begin to settle down, Tony, his immune system compromised, falls ill with pneumonia—and Wiley and Jackson find their little family faced with crisis once again.

BILAL'S BREAD
by Nick Wilgus

Freshly edited and revised, BILAL'S BREAD is available once more in paperback and ebook formats from Amazon.

FROM THE BLURB:
Bilal Abu has a lot to say, but he's scared to say it. And who could blame him? In the wake of 9/11, this 16-year-old Iraqi refugee has to contend with his immigrant family's never-ending drama and his fanatical older brother's sexual abuse. When Bilal falls in love with the son of the community's religious leader, things get better - and a whole lot worse.

In this careful study of what it means to be a stranger - in a new nation, in your own religious community, and even in your own family - Nick Wilgus gives us a courageous character who manages to find his voice just when other people most want him to be silent. Nominated in 2005 for a Lambda Award for Best Gay Men's Debut Fiction.

WHAT OTHERS SAY
"Bilal's voice dangerously breaks the code of silence and secret endurance of the Gay Muslim immigrant ... to understand the collision of Old World Iraqi values and new world freedoms, Bilal's Bread is a must-read for our community and our times." - The Advocate, July 5, 2005

"(The author) takes on intractable, monolithic prejudices in this tale of one frail young boy finally learning to stand up for himself, and though the story takes many distressing turns, the eventual outcome offers hope and healing." - Edge Media Network

"Rarely do we get a gem like this that blends a strikingly memorable story with a great cultural learning experience. No review can really do it justice. Captivating in its style, and daring in its content, it will surely become a classic of gay lit and perhaps a landmark young-adult book, too." - Chad Sosna

THE CURIOUS CORPSE

by Nick Wilgus

Crime Wave Press.

FROM THE BLURB:
When the body of a foreign woman is discovered at his busy temple in Bangkok during a monsoon downpour, Father Ananda finds himself at the center of a dangerous investigation.Who is this woman, and why does she clutch a Koran in her cold, lifeless hands? Was she, as Pol. Lt. Somchai suspects, a Russian prostitute? Or is there more to the story? And why was she murdered on the grounds of a temple?

As Father Ananda ponders these questions on his alms round the following morning, he is attacked by two Russian men demanding he turn over “the camera.” No camera was found on the body of the murder victim, but Ananda realizes it must contain photographs on the memory card that someone—either in the Russian mafia or the Russian Embassy—desperately wants to keep secret. But, pictures of what? Wrongdoing by the Russian attache´? Or something a bit closer to home for Ananda and his fellow monks?

One thing is clear: The sooner Ananda identifies the curious corpse found at his monastery, the sooner he can catch a killer—a killer that is still very much on the loose.

GET YOUR SHINE ON
by Nick Wilgus

Dreamspinner Press

FROM THE BLURB:
When his mother goes out to party one Saturday night and doesn't come back, seven-year-old Ishmael Hood is taken in by his estranged Uncle Henry and Henry's live-in boyfriend, Sam. As this unlikely trio begins to build a new life together, they encounter both support and hostility in the small Mississippi town where they live. Seems like just about everybody has an opinion on the matter -- and they're not shy about expressing it.

While this blossoming little family finds its feet, outside forces—and ghosts from the past—threaten to tear it apart. Henry, still trying to deal with the tragic death of his parents, finds himself hard-pressed to open his heart to this needy child.

Just as a little shine begins to return to their lives, Ishmael's mother returns and their world is thrown into chaos.

WHAT OTHERS SAY
"Having never read any of Nick Wilgus’ previous works, I was overwhelmed with the realness his writing brings through. Days after reading the story, I find myself still reflecting on the message within. While it is set in rural Mississippi, it could be set pretty much anywhere and you will still find people like the characters in the story who aren’t perfect – we all have our flaws, our beliefs, and our differences from others…yet, we can all learn to love one another. If you only read one book this year, this should be the book you read! Highly recommend!" - Joyfully Jay Reviews

"I can’t have enough of Wilgus’ works." - Scattered Thoughts and Rouge Words

WHAT OTHERS SAY
"Wilgus's Stones in the Road puts the style in lifestyle and the fun in dysfunctional families. At once a dark comedy and a rich meditation on love, I can't recommend this book enough!"
--Rick R. Reed, author of Dinner at Home

"Stones in the Road is an amazing follow up to his debut novel, Shaking the Sugar Tree, with some of the most outrageous Southerners ever to jump out of the pages of a book. Hilarious and heart breaking by turns, Stones in the Road will grip your heart and not let go."
- Becky Condit, USA Today

"I loved this book. I went through so many emotions reading this story. Mostly, I laughed, but there were quite a few moments that I sat with my mouth hanging open or tears running down my face." - MM Good Books Reviews

"Stones in the Road is an amazing story of tragedy and triumph; the coming together as a family and a community; perseverance and acceptance. It’s love and fortitude in the face of bigotry and poverty. All written in a way that makes me want to jump in my car and drive to Mississippi and meet this amazing man named Wiley and his honking son Noah, and the man he plans to spend his life with, Jackson," - Blogger Girls

SHAKING THE SUGAR TREE
by Nick Wilgus

Dreamspinner Press

FROM THE BLURB:
Wise-cracking Wiley Cantrell is loud and roaringly outrageous—and he needs to be to keep his deeply religious neighbors and family in the Deep South at bay. A failed writer on food stamps, Wiley works a minimum wage job and barely manages to keep himself and his deaf son, Noah, more than a stone’s throw away from Dumpster-diving.

Noah was a meth baby and has the birth defects to prove it. He sees how lonely his father is and tries to help him find a boyfriend while Wiley struggles to help Noah have a relationship with his incarcerated mother, who believes the best way to feed a child is with a slingshot. No wonder Noah becomes Wiley’s biggest supporter when Boston nurse Jackson Ledbetter walks past Wiley’s cash register and sets his sugar tree on fire.

Jackson falls like a wet mule wearing concrete boots for Wiley’s sense of humor. And while Wiley represents much of the best of the South, Jackson is hiding a secret that could threaten this new family in the making.

When North meets South, the cultural misunderstandings are many, but so are the laughs, and the tears, but, as they say down in Dixie, it’s all good.

WHAT OTHERS SAY
"The relationship Wilgus has created between Wiley and nine-year-old Noah is one of the most dynamic, deeply loving and honest father/son connections about which I’ve ever read. It’s filled with laughter." - Leslie Criss, Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal
