WWC Innovation

This page is intended for a collection of best practices, brilliant ideas and innovative suggestions from chapters in the Wild West Council area.  To add to our list, email your suggestion to the Webmaster. As it grows, we will create a separate page for each major functional area in Chapter Operations.  Feel free to also share best practices on the Chapter and Council forum in Linkup IMA.
  • Meeting topics:  Looking for ideas for meeting topics? Check out the ICMA's CMA CPE Guidelines. (posted by Pem Smith)
  • Plant Tours can be a popular chapter educational activity. Our Community Support Specialist, Tara Barker recently provided the following guidance for chapters wanting to award CPE for these activities.
    • "Although it is not written in the CPE Rules & Requirements; plant tours do not qualify for CPE credit.  Not unless the program was very formal (with handouts) with learning objectives, introductory lecture, (along with an agenda, sign in sheet, and evaluation form) and question and answer period at the end. I would suggest if a plant tour is scheduled, that they submit their material to Dennis Whitney, Senior VP, Certification, for acceptance."  (posted by Pem Smith)

  • Treasurer: There have been a few cases recently of chapters temporarily losing access to their accounts due to the unavailability of the treasurer for various reasons (e.g., illness or prolonged travel). Lessons learned include:
    • It's essential to ensure that bank signature cards are updated each year when the board changes;
    • Consider appointing an assistant to the treasurer to provide continuity if the treasurer is unavailable;
    • Look into on-line banking so that bank statements and transaction records are readily available.  (posted by Pem Smith)
