What God and Abraham Have in Common

A traditional tale of the life of Martin Luther relates how he was once engaged in family devotions with his wife, Katharina von Bora.  They were reading the account of Abraham's bringing his son, Isaac, to the altar of sacrifice.

Katie responded to the story by saying, "I do not believe it. God would not have treated his son like that!"

"But, Katie," replied Martin, gently, "he did."
