A VISTA’s job is to work themselves out of a job. Their service needs to go beyond their individual contributions and their project must become sustainable in the community and organization long after the VISTA resource has disappeared.
- Ben Stoltenberg, State Program Specialist and former VISTA
In preparing your site for the transition to a new VISTA, we encourage you to keep the following things in mind:
- Preparing transition materials is not something to save for the last month of your term. Start early!
- Ensuring a smooth transition for the next VISTA is one of the most important steps you can take for ensuring sustainability. Through putting in the time to complete this, you will shorten the learning curve of the next VISTA by weeks or even months.
- Because every project is unique, there is no "prescription" for creating transition materials. When in doubt, start with creating a timeline of your year and updating your contact list. From there, build the information on processes and procedures the new VISTA needs to be familiar with.
